However, some of the items you find are more important than others. More specifically, you want to always be on the lookout for Camp Supplies, which are a crucial piece of loot to always have in Baldur's Gate 3.
Camp Supplies serve you no purpose in combat or during the main part of your journey. The only purpose they serve is while you're at camp; you need 40 Camp Supplies to be able to take a long rest. Taking a long rest allows you to reset the day, possibly encounter your guardian, and replenish your party's health and spells. Camp Supplies are not the rarest item to find in Baldur's Gate 3, far from it, but they can be tricky to locate if you don't where to look for them.
It's also important to know that Camp Supplies take many different forms. You can find the standard Camp Supplies item, which has a backpack icon and is labeled as a Supply Pack. These give you 40 Camp Supplies right off the bat, and are placed in your inventory in the Camp Supplies pouch.
Those specifically named items are a little more difficult to find, though. What you want to be on the lookout for are food and drink items, as these are much more common and still offer a minimal amount of Camp Supplies.
For example, if you find a sausage, it will be worth around three Camp Supplies. When you go to take a long rest, you will be able to select the food and drink items you have acquired and combine them to reach a total of 40 Camp Supplies. Of course, you can also just use one of your named Camp Supplies items to reach 40 with no problem. Having the food and drink items is simply in case you run out of those.
To find food and drink items in Baldur's Gate 3, you want to look in every wooden crate, barrel, and chest you can find. These are often scattered all over the roads of the map and littered inside houses and buildings. You usually won't have to steal the items either, as the crates and barrels are free for the taking.
I have also had plenty of success looking in kitchens that I find in towns and random houses in Baldur's Gate 3. For example, there is a kitchen in the burning inn of Waukeen's Rest that has dozens and dozens of Camp Supplies ripe for the taking.
